Applications and Experiments for the Moisture Meter
The moisture meter shows how much water timber still holds, which decides whether it will shrink, warp or glue badly after machining. It fits ITI carpentry and furniture trades, TVET timber technology and joinery modules, and polytechnic or college practicals on wood seasoning and properties of timber.
- Checking incoming timber before it is planed on the Combination Surface Planer and Thicknesser and jointed.
- Following moisture loss during air seasoning or drying in the Kiln Drying Oven.
- Comparing readings at the surface and, with the hammer electrode, below it.
- Teaching why glue joints and finishes fail on wet wood.
Take several readings along a board and away from the ends, and select the correct wood scale for the species being tested.
Standard Scope of Supply
The Moisture Meter is supplied as a single handheld unit as described above. The hammer electrode for sub-surface readings is optional and is listed separately on the quotation if you ask for it, together with any other timber testing items you need.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Ask for a quotation for one meter or a set for a class, and it will state packing, delivery time and price for that quantity. The optional hammer electrode and other vocational training equipment for the wood shop can be added to the same quotation.
As a registered exporter with an Importer-Exporter Code, Science Lab Supplies can ship to buyers in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, Peru, Egypt and Iraq. Use the contact page or enquiry cart to enquire, or visit the lab tender page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the hammer electrode for?
The optional hammer electrode is driven into the timber so the meter can read moisture below the surface, which is useful for thick sections where the outside dries faster than the core.
Why does temperature correction matter?
Wood moisture readings change with temperature. Automatic correction adjusts the result, so trainees get comparable readings whether the timber is tested in a cool store or in a warm workshop next to the machines.
Who supplies the Moisture Meter?
Science Lab Supplies supplies the meter from Ambala, India. ITIs, polytechnics, TVET centres, tender contractors and distributors can order it alone, with the optional hammer electrode, or alongside wood workshop machines.
Can it be used on different wood species?
Yes. The built-in wood calibration scales let the user pick the setting that suits the timber being tested, so readings on different species can be compared during seasoning or before machining.
