Hoffman Voltameter With Electrodes
Product Code : LSK-CL-10242
Hoffman Voltameter With Electrodes (SKU LSK-CL-10242), also written Hofmann voltameter, is a glass electrolysis apparatus that splits water into hydrogen and oxygen and collects each gas in its own graduated limb. Chemistry and physics teachers use it to show the composition of water and, at senior level, to evaluate the electrochemical equivalent of hydrogen. The unit is supplied by Science Lab Supplies out of Ambala, India for schools, colleges, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
Each feature of the Hoffman voltameter is given its own row in the table. In short, two connected glass limbs of about 50 ml each, graduated 2–50 ml and topped by stopcocks, join an integral reservoir tube with a funnel-shaped bulb; two carbon and two platinum electrodes come with it, and it runs from a 12 V DC supply.

Applications and Experiments for the Hoffman Voltameter
The voltameter is used to decompose water by electrolysis, show that hydrogen and oxygen form in a 2:1 volume ratio, and determine chemical composition by electrolysis. College classes also use the measured hydrogen volume to evaluate its electrochemical equivalent.
- Class 10 science (NCERT): electrolysis of water as a decomposition reaction, with Sodium Sulphate dissolved to make the water conduct.
- Class 12 chemistry: Faraday's laws of electrolysis, run from the 12 V step of an AC/DC Laboratory Power Supply.
- B.Sc. physics and chemistry: electrochemical equivalent of hydrogen.
Set the apparatus vertically in a clamp and stand and connect the terminals to a DC source. Sulphuric acid is corrosive and hydrogen is flammable, so work under supervision, wear Safety Goggles, Polycarbonate, 12 pcs and test the gases with a match only in small amounts.
Standard Scope of Supply
You receive the glass voltameter with its reservoir and stopcocks, plus two carbon and two platinum electrodes, in a well-protected packing case. The 12 V DC supply, clamp and stand, electrolyte chemicals and matches for gas testing are not included.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Quotes are available for a single demonstration unit or for several lab stations. Each one from Science Lab Supplies gives the packing, delivery time and price for the number requested, and the stand and power supply can be added so the chemistry lab equipment in India arrives together.
Holding an Importer-Exporter Code as a registered exporter, Science Lab Supplies can ship to buyers in Zambia, Rwanda, South Africa, Qatar, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Questions about the voltameter go to the contact page; a full electrolysis bench can be listed in the enquiry cart, and the lab tender page describes how tender quotations are prepared.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are both carbon and platinum electrodes supplied?
The set includes two of each so the same voltameter can be run with either type. Platinum resists attack by the gases and electrolyte; carbon electrodes are a common alternative.
What power supply does it need?
A 12 V DC power supply connected to the electrode terminals. The supply is not part of the set and can be quoted with it, along with the clamp and stand.
Who supplies the Hoffman Voltameter With Electrodes?
Science Lab Supplies handles supply from Ambala, India, and can put the voltameter, its stand, spare electrodes and a power supply on a single quotation for a school or college.
Is Hoffman the same as Hofmann voltameter?
Yes. Both spellings refer to the same three-tube water electrolysis apparatus, with two graduated limbs and a central reservoir, used in school and college laboratories.
Related Electrolysis Equipment
The voltameter needs a stand to hold it upright, and spare or alternative electrodes keep it running. Other water-electrolysis set-ups suit group work at different levels. These Chemistry Lab and Electrical and Electronics items complete the topic and can share one quotation.
