Potometer Apparatus
Product Code : LSK-BL-10208
Potometer Apparatus (SKU LSK-BL-10208) demonstrates transpiration rates and the rate of water absorption by a cut shoot under different external conditions. The shoot is sealed into a stopper, the apparatus is filled with water, and an air bubble moving along a 1 mm bore capillary shows how fast water is taken up. It serves plant physiology practicals in senior school biology and B.Sc. botany. Science Lab Supplies, a biology lab equipment supplier in India, sends it from Ambala to schools, colleges, dealers and tender buyers.
Specifications
This potometer has a capillary tube of 1 mm bore, a glass stopcock and a water reservoir, all held by spring clips on a varnished wooden base. In short, opening the stopcock admits water from the reservoir to reset the air bubble, so repeated readings can be taken with the same shoot.

Applications and Experiments for the Potometer Apparatus
The apparatus lets students time how far the air bubble travels and turn that into a rate of water uptake, which reflects transpiration by the leaves. It fits the transport in plants topic of NCERT Class 11 biology, the transpiration practical of senior school boards and B.Sc. plant physiology.
- Class 11 biology: measuring water uptake by a leafy shoot, with the open capillary end dipped into a Chemical Glasses (Beaker) 250ml and each run timed on School Digital Stopwatches.
- Comparing rates in still air, moving air, bright light and shade, with the room temperature noted on an Air Thermometer.
- B.Sc. botany: relating water uptake to leaf area by repeating the run after removing some leaves.
Cut the shoot under water and seal it into the stopper without trapping air; any leak at the stopper will make the bubble move for the wrong reason.
Standard Scope of Supply
Each Potometer Apparatus comes assembled with its stopper, end tube, 1 mm bore capillary, glass stopcock and water reservoir, clipped to the varnished wooden base. The plant shoot, beaker of water and timer are not included; a beaker and stopwatch can join the same quotation.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Whether you need one potometer for a demonstration or a full set for student groups, a quotation can be prepared for that number. Science Lab Supplies shows the packing, delivery time and price for the quantity on the quotation, and beakers, stopwatches or other potometer designs can be added.
Backed by an Importer-Exporter Code, Science Lab Supplies is able to ship to buyers in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda. Science Lab Supplies is registered for GST (GSTIN 06ADEPJ0574F2ZU). Frequently Asked Questions
How is the air bubble reset between readings?
Open the glass stopcock to let water flow in from the reservoir. This pushes the bubble back along the 1 mm bore capillary to a starting point, so the next reading can begin without dismantling the apparatus.
Does a potometer measure transpiration directly?
It measures the rate at which the cut shoot absorbs water. Since most of that water is lost from the leaves, the uptake rate is used as a close indicator of the transpiration rate under each condition.
What conditions can be compared?
The apparatus is designed for transpiration and water absorption under various external conditions, so light, air movement, humidity and temperature can each be changed while the same shoot stays in place.
Who supplies the Potometer Apparatus?
Science Lab Supplies, operating from Ambala in India, takes enquiries for this potometer and prepares quotations for schools, colleges, laboratory dealers and tender contractors, either alone or with other plant physiology items.
