Salient Pole Generator
Product Code : LSK-EPS-10521
Salient Pole Generator (SKU LSK-EPS-10521) is a console-based trainer for exploring the principles and characteristics of salient pole generators, including synchronising to the grid, load angle, reactive power control and generator protection. It is aimed at electrical machines and power systems labs in B.Tech/B.E. programmes and suits lecturer-designed experiments and student projects. Science Lab Supplies provides the trainer from Ambala, India, to universities, engineering colleges, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
A prime mover and generator are coupled on a common bed-plate in the console base. A vector drive runs the prime mover in either load-flow direction, an integral shaft encoder gives load angle, and excitation is manual or by automatic voltage regulation. Resistors absorb reverse power when the generator is overrunning.

Applications and Experiments for the Salient Pole Generator
Students run the generator alone on its load banks, then synchronise it to the mains and study real and reactive power flow, load angle and protection. The machine characteristics resemble industrial turbine-generator sets, so results carry over to real power stations.
- B.Tech electrical machines lab: open-circuit and load characteristics of a salient pole generator.
- Synchronising by synchroscope and by the three-lamp method.
- Load angle measurement with the shaft encoder; motoring and generating.
- Reactive power regulation using variable quadrature droop.
- Generator protection: line, earth, voltage and frequency faults.
It runs at mains voltages with rotating machinery; operate it only under trained supervision.
Standard Scope of Supply
The trainer includes the machine set, drive, excitation controls, load banks, protection relay with software, circuit-breakers with lamps and hand switches, BNC waveform transducers and shrouded leads. Not supplied: an oscilloscope, the computer for relay programming, and the additional relay for the spare socket.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
We can quote one trainer or several for a machines laboratory with multiple bays. Each quotation lists packing, delivery time and price for the quantity requested, and an optional relay or other power systems items can be quoted with it.
As a holder of an Importer-Exporter Code, Science Lab Supplies can ship to buyers in Uganda, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the Philippines and Nepal. Enquire through the enquiry cart or the contact page; tender details are on the lab tender page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work only when synchronised to the mains?
No. The control and protection circuits work both when the generator runs unsynchronised on its own loads and when it is synchronised to the mains supply.
How are waveforms displayed?
Transducers with BNC connections send voltage and current signals to an external oscilloscope for display and analysis. The oscilloscope is not supplied.
Who supplies the Salient Pole Generator?
Science Lab Supplies supplies it from Ambala, India, and can combine it with other electrical power system trainers on one quotation.
What happens to reverse power when the generator overruns?
In overrun mode, resistors dissipate the reverse power, so students can investigate load flow in both positive and negative directions.
