Torsion Pendulum
Product Code : LSK-AM-11090
Torsion Pendulum (SKU LSK-AM-11090) is a solid brass disc hung on a suspension wire so that it twists back and forth about the wire's axis. Students time its torsional oscillations to find the rigidity modulus of the wire in B.Sc., engineering and diploma mechanics labs. Science Lab Supplies manufactures the pendulum at its own works at Plot 448, HSIIDC Industrial Area, Saha, Ambala, India, and sells it directly to schools, colleges, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
The upper end of the suspension wire hangs from a universal clamp and the lower end grips the centre of a solid brass disc, each end secured by a chuck nut. A heavy brass ring of the same outside diameter as the disc sits on top of it to raise the moment of inertia.

Applications and Experiments for the Torsion Pendulum
The apparatus is used to measure the modulus of rigidity of a wire from the period of torsional oscillation, with and without the brass ring in place. It serves B.Sc. physics mechanics practicals, first-year engineering physics labs and polytechnic courses, and it also helps explain rotational motion and moment of inertia in senior school physics.
- B.Sc. practical: finding the modulus of rigidity of the suspension wire by the torsion pendulum method.
- Comparing the periods of the bare disc and the disc plus ring to show how moment of inertia sets the period.
- Class 11 physics: demonstrating rotational oscillation alongside the moment of inertia topic.
Standard Scope of Supply
Each pendulum comes with the solid brass disc, the heavy brass ring and the suspension wire with its chuck nut fittings, the upper end hanging from a universal clamp as described above. If you need the larger 6 inch disc version, mention it in your enquiry so the quotation lists that option.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Quotations can be prepared for one pendulum or for a complete mechanics lab quantity. Every quotation from Science Lab Supplies sets out the packing, delivery time and price for the number of units you request, and other physics lab equipment in India from the same range can be listed on it too.
Holding an Importer-Exporter Code, Science Lab Supplies is able to ship to buyers in Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. To start an order, write through the contact page, collect items in the enquiry cart, or check the lab tender page for institutional purchasing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Torsion Pendulum used to measure?
It is mainly used to find the modulus of rigidity of the suspension wire. Students time the oscillations of the disc with and without the ring and calculate the rigidity from the two periods.
Why is a brass ring supplied with the disc?
Placing the ring on the disc increases the moment of inertia of the system and therefore its period of vibration, so readings in both states can be compared in the calculation.
Is there a larger disc option?
Yes. Besides the standard 12.5 cm solid brass disc, the pendulum is also available with a 6 inch brass disc; name the version you want when you request a quotation.
Does Science Lab Supplies make this pendulum or trade it?
It is made in-house. Science Lab Supplies manufactures the Torsion Pendulum in its Saha, Ambala factory in India, so buyers deal with the maker and receive quotations without a middleman.
