Laboratory Spectrometer
Product Code : SCL-LAO-12078
Laboratory Spectrometer (SKU SCL-LAO-12078) is a prism and grating spectrometer with a collimator, an 8x telescope and dual verniers reading to 1 arcminute, used to measure refractive index and the wavelengths of spectral lines. It is standard apparatus for B.Sc., engineering and polytechnic physics labs. The instrument is a manufactured product of Science Lab Supplies, made at Plot 448, HSIIDC Industrial Area, Saha, Ambala, India, and delivered from there to schools, colleges, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
The table gives every specification of the vernier spectrometer row by row. In short, a powder-coated cast-iron base carries a slit collimator, an 8x telescope with a 178 mm achromatic objective and rack-and-pinion focus, a levelling prism table and a 150 mm circle with two verniers reading to 1 arcminute.

Applications and Experiments for the Laboratory Spectrometer
With the slit lit by a sodium or discharge lamp, students focus the telescope, set the collimator for parallel light and read angles of refracted or diffracted lines on both verniers. It is the core instrument for prism and grating spectroscopy in undergraduate optics teaching.
- B.Sc. practical: refractive index of a prism by minimum deviation, using a Spectrometer Prism Separates Light or the Glass Prism (Equilateral, 50 × 50 mm).
- B.Sc. practical: wavelengths of mercury, sodium or hydrogen lines from a plane transmission grating, for example the Diffraction Gratings with Holder.
- Grating line density from the angular spacing of diffraction maxima.
- Dispersive power of prism glass from red and violet line readings.
Lift the instrument by its base, not the telescope or collimator tube, and keep laser beams out of the collimator unless users wear suitable eyewear.
Standard Scope of Supply
A complete set includes the main base assembly, the collimator with adjustable slit plate, the telescope with crosshair eyepiece, the adjustable prism table, a diffraction grating holder mount and a hard-shell wooden storage case. Prisms, gratings and lamps are separate and can be quoted on request.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
To ask for the laboratory spectrometer price in India or abroad, tell us how many instruments your laboratory needs. The quotation gives packing, delivery time and price for that number, and prisms or gratings can be added to the same quotation for a ready practical.
Science Lab Supplies, an exporter with an Importer-Exporter Code, can ship to buyers in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda. Technical queries are welcome on the contact page, combined orders can be assembled in the enquiry cart, and university tenders are covered on the lab tender page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How are the dual verniers read?
The two verniers sit 180 degrees apart to cancel eccentricity errors. Read the degrees on the main circular scale, add the minutes from the vernier, and average the two readings; the least count is 1 arcminute.
Can it hold a diffraction grating?
Yes. A grating holder clamp mounts on the prism table and takes common plane transmission grating plates. The grating itself is not part of the set, so add one to your quotation if needed.
Which light sources suit the instrument?
It is passive and needs no power. Use monochromatic sources such as a sodium lamp, or discharge tubes containing mercury or hydrogen; the lamp and its supply are bought separately.
Is Science Lab Supplies the manufacturer of this spectrometer?
Yes. The spectrometer is built by Science Lab Supplies at its works in Saha, Ambala, India. Because the company manufactures it, your enquiry goes to the source, and the quotation reflects factory packing and dispatch.

These prisms, polarisers and interference sets extend a spectrometer course beyond simple refraction into dispersion, polarisation and thin-film or double-slit interference work. Any of them can be quoted together with the laboratory spectrometer when a physics department plans its optics practicals.
