Young's Modulus Apparatus (Searle's Pattern)
Product Code : LSK-EAST-11169
Young's Modulus Apparatus (Searle's Pattern) (SKU LSK-EAST-11169) measures the Young's modulus of a wire from its extension under load. Two brass frames grip a reference wire and a test wire, and a micrometer reading to 0.01 mm, set against a spirit level, records the stretch. It is the standard set for the Class 11 elasticity practical and B.Sc. labs. Science Lab Supplies manufactures it at its Saha, Ambala unit, Plot 448, HSIIDC Industrial Area, India, and sells direct to schools, colleges, contractors and distributors.
Specifications
The Searle's pattern set is described feature by feature in the table. Briefly, two brass frames with specially designed self-centring chucks are joined by a pivoted link carrying a sensitive spirit level and a standard micrometer head reading to 1/100 mm, and the set comes in a case with a ceiling bracket, constant weight and wire.

Applications and Experiments for the Young's Modulus Apparatus
Both wires hang from the ceiling bracket; the reference wire carries the constant weight while loads are added to the test wire. After each load the micrometer is turned until the spirit level is horizontal again, and the readings give extension against load, from which Young's modulus is calculated.
- Class 11 physics practical: Young's modulus of the material of a given wire by Searle's method, loading it with Laboratory Slotted Masses, 2.5 kg in 500 g steps.
- Measuring the wire diameter at several points with a Micrometer reading 0–25 mm in 0.01 mm divisions.
- B.Sc. and engineering physics: comparing materials by replacing the test wire with lengths of SWG Steel Wire (100gm).
Fix the ceiling bracket firmly, add and remove loads gently, and keep feet clear of the hanging weights.
Standard Scope of Supply
The apparatus is supplied in a case with the two brass frames and their self-centring chucks, the pivoted link with spirit level and micrometer head, a ceiling bracket, a constant weight and suitable wire. Slotted weights for loading the test wire are not included and can be quoted separately.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Order one apparatus or enough for every practical group in a physics lab; the quotation details packing, delivery time and price for the quantity you choose. Slotted weights, a micrometer and spare test wire can be listed on the same quotation as well.
Science Lab Supplies holds an Importer-Exporter Code, so it can ship to buyers in Qatar, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, Peru and Egypt. For a quotation, use the contact page, place the apparatus in the enquiry cart, or refer to the lab tender page for a school or college tender.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are weights included with the Searle's pattern apparatus?
A constant weight for the reference wire is included, but the slotted weights used to load the test wire are not. They can be added to the same quotation, or your laboratory can use its own slotted masses.
What is the least count of the micrometer?
The pivoted link carries a standard micrometer head reading to 1/100 mm, that is 0.01 mm. It is read when the sensitive spirit level on the link is brought back to horizontal after each change of load.
Why does the apparatus use two wires?
The reference wire carries a constant weight and the test wire is loaded. Measuring the test wire's extension relative to the reference wire cancels errors from temperature changes or a yielding support.
Is Science Lab Supplies the manufacturer or a trader?
Science Lab Supplies is the manufacturer and produces the brass frames, link and case set in Saha, Ambala. Because the quote comes from the producer, details such as spare wire or extra cases can be discussed directly with the maker.
