Wave Motion Powell’s Wave Demonstrator
Product Code : SCL-PL-12123
Wave Motion Powell’s Wave Demonstrator (SKU SCL-PL-12123) is a hand-cranked teaching model that turns rotary motion into a travelling row of coloured marker spheres, showing both transverse and longitudinal waves. Teachers use it for the wave chapters of Class 9 and Class 11 physics. It is made by Science Lab Supplies in its own workshop at Plot 448, HSIIDC Industrial Area, Saha, Ambala, and sold directly to schools, colleges, distributors and tender contractors.
Specifications
Turning the handle drives a crankshaft whose offset cams lift a row of vertical rods in sequence, each topped with a high-contrast marker sphere. The frame combines cast alloy and finished hardwood parts, and the mechanism runs without batteries or mains power, so it can be used in any classroom.

Applications and Experiments for the Powell’s Wave Demonstrator
The demonstrator lets a whole class watch a single particle oscillate while the wave shape moves along the row, which is the key idea in introductory wave theory. It supports NCERT Class 9 sound, Class 11 waves, and first-year B.Sc. lectures on progressive waves and phase.
- Class 9 science: contrasting transverse waves with the compressions and rarefactions of sound.
- Class 11 physics: amplitude, wavelength, time period and phase in a progressive wave.
- Showing that a faster crank raises the frequency and brings the crests closer together.
- B.Sc. and teacher-training lectures: phase difference between neighbouring particles.
Standard Scope of Supply
Each demonstrator is supplied fully assembled with its operating handle and a classroom instructor guide that outlines the main wave experiments. No power supply is needed. Measuring items such as a metre rule can be placed on the same quotation if needed.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
A quotation can cover one demonstrator for a single classroom or several for a district order; Science Lab Supplies sets out packing, delivery time and price for that quantity. Other school physics lab equipment in India from the wave range can be listed on the same quotation.
Science Lab Supplies holds an Importer-Exporter Code and is able to ship to buyers in Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda and the UAE. For prices and delivery terms, use the contact page or the enquiry cart; buyers working to a tender can start from the lab tender page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Powell’s wave demonstrator produce a travelling wave?
A single crankshaft carries offset cams that raise the rods one after another. Each sphere only moves up and down or to and fro, but the staggered timing makes the crest appear to travel along the row.
Does the demonstrator need electricity?
No. The apparatus is fully mechanical and is driven only by turning the hand crank, so it needs no batteries, mains socket or transformer at all.
Can the wavelength be changed?
Amplitude and wavelength are fixed by the geometry of the cams. Turning the crank faster or slower changes the frequency and the speed at which the wave appears to move.
Is Science Lab Supplies the manufacturer or a trader?
Science Lab Supplies is the manufacturer. The demonstrator is built at its Saha, Ambala works, and quotations come from this science apparatus manufacturer in India itself, not from a reseller.
