Simple Melting Point Apparatus
Product Code : LSK-CL-10268
Simple Melting Point Apparatus (SKU LSK-CL-10268) is an aluminium heating block with an angled hole drilled to hold a thermometer, used to find the melting point of solids in school and college chemistry. It serves Class 11–12 organic chemistry practicals and first-year B.Sc. labs. Orders are quoted and dispatched from Ambala, India by Science Lab Supplies for schools, colleges, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
Each row in the table below covers one property of the 65 mm aluminium block. In short, it is an aluminium block 65 mm in diameter and 50 mm high with a hole drilled at an angle, so the thermometer bulb sits inside the metal; aluminium conducts heat quickly and evenly, so the thermometer follows the block temperature.

Applications and Experiments for the Simple Melting Point Apparatus
The block is used to measure the temperature at which a solid melts, a quick check of identity and purity for organic compounds. Heated gently over a burner or hot plate, it gives a steady rise in temperature that students can read from the inserted thermometer while watching the sample.
- NCERT Class 11 chemistry lab manual: determination of the melting point of an organic compound such as Benzoic Acid.
- Class 12 and B.Sc. organic practicals: checking the purity of a recrystallised product against its literature melting point.
- Introductory lessons showing that impurities lower and broaden the melting range.
The block stays hot for some time after heating; lift it with Crucible Tongs and let it cool on a Ceramic Mesh or other heat-resistant surface.
Standard Scope of Supply
You receive the aluminium block with its angled thermometer hole, 65 x 50 mm, as a single item. A thermometer is not included, and the burner or hot plate, capillary tubes and sample are also provided by the laboratory or quoted as separate items.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Blocks can be quoted singly or in a batch for every bench in an organic chemistry lab. Our quotation states the packing method, delivery time and price for your quantity, and suitable thermometers and burners can be quoted alongside so the set is complete on arrival.
Science Lab Supplies has an Importer-Exporter Code and, as a registered exporter, can ship to buyers in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, Peru, Egypt and Iraq. Science Lab Supplies is registered for GST (GSTIN 06ADEPJ0574F2ZU). Put a price request to us on the contact page, gather the block and its accessories in the enquiry cart, or file institutional tender papers on the lab tender page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a thermometer supplied with the block?
No. The thermometer is not included. Choose one whose range covers the melting points you plan to measure; laboratory thermometers from our range can be added to the same quotation.
Why use an aluminium block instead of an oil bath?
A metal block needs no heating liquid, so there is no hot oil to spill or smoke. It heats evenly and is simple for students to set up.
Who supplies the Simple Melting Point Apparatus?
The block is sourced and quoted by Science Lab Supplies from its base in Ambala, India, for schools, colleges and contractors, with thermometers and burners added to the same quotation on request.
How does it differ from the Apparatus Melting Point?
The Apparatus Melting Point is an electric 230 V instrument with a rapid heat switch, back-lit sample tubes seen through a lens and a range up to 350 °C. This block has no heater of its own and is heated externally.
Related Melting Point and Heating Equipment
Everything needed to run a melting point practical with this block can be sourced together: an electric apparatus for comparison, two thermometer choices, glass capillary tubes for the samples and three heat sources. Adding them to one quotation keeps the organic chemistry bench complete.
- Apparatus Melting Point — electric unit with a ceramic-insulated aluminium heating block and back-lit, lens-magnified sample tubes, ambient to 350 °C.
- Laboratory Thermometers — graduated glass alcohol thermometer reading -10 to 100 °C.
- Thermometer (with no Mercury) — slim glass stem and smaller bulb, scaled -10 to 120 °C.
- Capillary Tubes — clear, heat-resistant glass tubes 1 mm in diameter.
- Bunsen Burner (Pack of Two) — two gas burners with brass needle valve and rotating air collar on a die-cast base.
- Beck Bunsen — 150 mm Bunsen burner with gas knob and rotating air collar, lit with a striker.
- Laboratory Spirit Burner — 100 ml metal-housed burner with a cotton wick and snuffer cap.
