When heated, the brass side lengthens more than the steel side, so the strip bends with brass on the outside of the curve; on cooling it straightens again. Which way does the Bimetallic Strip bend when heated?
Towards the steel side. Brass expands more than steel for the same rise in temperature, so the brass ends up on the outside of the curve, and the strip straightens again as it cools.
How is the strip heated?
