Copper Sulphate Blue Crystal
Product Code : SCL-LC-12295
Copper Sulphate Blue Crystal (SKU SCL-LC-12295) is copper(II) sulphate in the familiar blue crystalline form, sometimes called blue vitriol. Science teachers use it for crystallisation, water-of-crystallisation and displacement experiments, and for copper-ion tests and simple cells in chemistry practicals from middle school to college. Science Lab Supplies ships it from Ambala, India to schools, colleges, training institutes, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
Blue copper sulphate crystals are usually the pentahydrate, CuSO4·5H2O. Anhydrous copper sulphate, CuSO4, is a different hydrate state with its own appearance and formula weight, so the two should not be swapped without checking the method. Hydrate form, grade, assay, crystal size and pack size are shown on the label and quotation.

Applications and Experiments for Copper Sulphate Crystals
The crystals serve several standard practicals. They turn white when heated as their water of crystallisation is driven off, grow back from a saturated solution, and give a blue solution in which iron or zinc displaces copper. The same solution supplies copper ions for analysis and electrochemistry.
- Class 7 science: crystallisation of copper sulphate from solution.
- Class 10 science: displacement of copper by iron and heating the crystals to show water of crystallisation.
- Class 12 chemistry: copper half-cells in electrochemistry practicals.
- Salt analysis: tests for the copper(II) ion and the sulphate ion.
Standard Scope of Supply
Supply is one pack of blue crystals in the quantity quoted, labelled with batch and hazard information and sent with the Safety Data Sheet and transport documents. Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Ask for a single pack or for a quantity sized to every class that runs these practicals; the quotation spells out packing, delivery time and price for that amount. Iron filings, zinc salts and other chemistry lab equipment in India can be included in the same quotation.
As a registered exporter with an Importer-Exporter Code, Science Lab Supplies can ship to buyers in Peru, Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana. Get in touch via the contact page, or place the item in the enquiry cart; tender details are on the lab tender page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do copper sulphate crystals turn white when heated?
Heating drives off the water of crystallisation, leaving white anhydrous copper sulphate. Adding water back restores the blue colour, which is why the crystals are used to teach hydrated salts.
Is blue copper sulphate the same as anhydrous copper sulphate?
No. The blue crystals are normally the pentahydrate, CuSO4·5H2O, while the anhydrous salt is CuSO4. They differ in appearance and formula weight, so check which one a method calls for.
Is copper sulphate hazardous?
It must be handled with care: avoid swallowing it, breathing its dust and contact with eyes and skin, and collect copper-containing solutions as chemical waste rather than pouring them into drains.
Who supplies the Copper Sulphate Blue Crystal?
Science Lab Supplies supplies it from Ambala, India to schools, colleges and distributors, and each quotation confirms the hydrate form, grade and pack size of the batch.
Related Copper and Sulphate Reagents
Teachers who stock copper sulphate usually want a few neighbouring salts: other copper compounds for comparison, and other metal sulphates for displacement and cell experiments. These four reagents from the Lab Chemicals range fill that gap and can be quoted together.
- Cupric Chloride Lab — copper(II) chloride for copper-ion and chloride work.
- Copper Oxide Black — black copper(II) oxide for metal oxide and redox lessons.
- Ferrous Sulphate Green Crystal — iron(II) sulphate for redox and hydrated-salt comparisons.
- Zinc Sulphate — zinc salt for precipitation and electrochemistry demonstrations.
