Barium Chloride
Product Code : SCL-LC-12290
Barium Chloride (SKU SCL-LC-12290) is an inorganic barium salt used mainly as the sulphate test reagent, and for precipitation reactions and qualitative inorganic analysis. Soluble barium compounds are toxic, so it is handled by trained staff in college and senior-school chemistry laboratories. Science Lab Supplies supplies it from Ambala, India, to colleges, science departments, tender contractors and distributors, for laboratory use only, never for food, medical or household purposes.
Specifications
Barium chloride is BaCl2 in anhydrous form and is widely supplied as the dihydrate, BaCl2·2H2O. The two forms weigh differently per mole, so the batch label is checked before a solution is made up. Grade, assay, physical form and pack size are stated on the quotation.

Applications and Experiments for Barium Chloride
A barium chloride solution added to an acidified sample gives a white precipitate of barium sulphate when sulphate ions are present, the standard sulphate test in salt analysis. Trained staff should prepare the solution, wear gloves and eye protection, and collect all residues as barium-containing hazardous waste, never down the drain.
- NCERT Class 10 science, Chapter 1: precipitation reaction between sodium sulphate and barium chloride, demonstrated by the teacher.
- Class 11–12 salt analysis: confirmatory test for the sulphate anion.
- B.Sc. analytical chemistry: gravimetric estimation of sulphate as barium sulphate.
- Laboratory safety training: toxic-metal labelling, storage and waste segregation.
Standard Scope of Supply
Each order line is one pack of Barium Chloride with a batch label showing the hydrate form, the Safety Data Sheet and transport documents. Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Ask for one pack or for stock across several college laboratories; the quotation lists packing, delivery time and price for your quantity, with hazard paperwork included. Sulphate salts for practice samples and other chemistry lab equipment in India can be priced on the same quotation.
Holding an Importer-Exporter Code, Science Lab Supplies, a registered exporter, is able to ship to buyers in South Africa, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia and Peru. Reach us through the contact page, add products to the enquiry cart, or use the lab tender page for tender documents.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Barium Chloride used for?
It is a barium salt reagent for supervised sulphate ion testing, precipitation reactions and qualitative inorganic analysis in school and college chemistry practicals.
Is this barium salt hazardous?
Yes. It is a toxic barium compound. Use PPE and trained supervision, keep it in restricted storage away from food and feedstuffs, and dispose of residues as hazardous waste rather than into drains.
Who supplies the Barium Chloride?
Science Lab Supplies supplies it from Ambala, India. The quotation confirms the hydrate form, grade and pack size, and the Safety Data Sheet is sent with the goods.
Can school students use it?
Only where the institution permits barium-compound handling and a trained teacher or technician controls dispensing, demonstrations and disposal. It should not be issued for unsupervised student work.
Related Barium and Sulphate Reagents
Sulphate tests and barium chemistry use a small family of reagents: a sulphate to test, the precipitate for reference, and other barium salts for comparison. These four items from the same Lab Chemicals range complete that set and can share one quotation.
- Sodium Sulphate — sulphate salt for sulphate studies and solution preparation.
- Barium Sulphate — BaSO4 for reference and inorganic salt studies.
- Barium Nitrate — hazardous nitrate salt of barium for controlled use.
- Barium Hydroxide — alkaline barium reagent for strong-base work.
